Satan vs Christ

The Truth on Spiritual Warfare:

It never seems to amaze me how many Christians will believe in God, Christ and the Holy Spirit yet try to discredit, or worse yet,  deny the existence of demons and even Satan ( Lucifer ) himself. I hate to burst anyone’s bubble but the power of evil is real. Although the Bible states Satan himself is imprisoned in Heaven it also states In (Ephesians 6:12 N.I.V.): “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, [a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

From this verse one can conclude that if the Holy Spirit is the Living God present in today’s world then there are forces working against him.

So how do these evil powers manifest in one’s life?

The powers of darkness influence man in two ways: By obsession and by possession.

Obsession occurs when an individual is cohered into performing and act of evil , an illness ( physical or mental) manifest, or when some weird occurrence occurs that disrupts a spiritual routine or the life of a spiritual individual repeatedly as to insure the event will be unsuccessful or not occur at all. Obsession may manifest in the failure in the ability to remove a particular sin even after seeking repentance as well. However, these are a few examples I have either witnessed or experienced. Remember the enemy is a master of deception and has many trick in his arsenal of warfare. Obsession is an attack by a demonic force on an individual the nature of the attack may vary based on the circumstance and the intentions of the attacking party.

Possession occurs when a demonic force enters the body of a person and takers control of the soul forming a symbiotic host relationship. The word soul is being used here for we each have a soul and once saved all are of the Spirit. Thus, when the word spirit is used in this paper I will be referring to the Holy Spirit or a demonic force. I chose to believe “As above so below.”

How do we combat a Spiritual Attack?

One of the most effective methods in countering a spiritual attack is prayer. The power of prayer should never be under estimated.

However, this should be followed up by a strong dose of read aloud from God’s word. I prefer to recite from Psalm 23, 28, 31, Deuteronomy 6:16, or 8:3. Psalms 23 is probably my most favorite however and tends to give the best results as it also serves to protect myself from evil as well.

A Psalm of David.

“23 The Lord is my shepherd;

I shall not want.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside the still waters.

3 He restores my soul;

He leads me in the paths of righteousness

For His name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil;

For You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil;

My cup runs over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life;

And I will dwell[a] in the house of the Lord

Forever.”

Finally, when dealing with possession it is necessary to have the inflicted individual (host) accepts Christ as their Lord and Savior. This can be done by simply Having them say they do so aloud or having them recite a scripture on such  matter such as (John 3:16N.I.V.) “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” or one from the Roman Road like “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord(Romans 8:38-39 NLT).”

In some cases it may be necessary to anoint to the inflicted soul with Holy water or Oil as well and even going as far as hearing a confession of sins.
